He will begin his new position immediately.

Gallagher has spent his entire education career in the Issaquah School District.

He started in 1979 as a high school English and social studies instructor and went on to become a guidance counselor, a middle school assistant principal, the principal of Issaquah High School and most recently the executive director of high schools at Issaquah.

Residents who fought school fire to be honored

The Lakewood School District and the Marysville Fire District will honor residents who helped contain a July 23 arson fire at Lakewood Elementary School.

A recognition ceremony is 5:30 p.m. Aug. 20 in the Lakewood High School Commons, 17023 11th Ave NE. The public is welcome.

At least eight school district residents converged on the elementary school campus after seeing smoke in the early evening of July 23.

They broke into classrooms to get to fire extinguishers before firefighters arrived. Damage to the school was estimated at $200,000.

A 12-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of starting the fire.
