Students from Everett Community College’s Ocean Research College Academy will host a beach education day from noon-2 p.m. Saturday on Possession Sound near the Mukilteo ferry terminal.
The public is invited to join students and teachers, who will meet at noon at the public access parking lot north of the ferry terminal. During low tide, students will demonstrate research sampling methods on the waterfront. Participants can join a crab count.
The Ocean Research College Academy is an early college program for high school students, one of the first in Washington. The academy is sponsored by EvCC and received funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
High school students earn up to two years of college credit for free while attending ORCA classes full-time at EvCC. Up to 60 students are accepted every year.
For more information, call academy director Ardi Kveven at 425-267-0156.
With its principal moving on, Post Middle School in Arlington has a new leader.

He replaces Eric DeJong, who will lead the new Haller Middle School in Arlington next fall.
Monroe School District will continue to put the bulk of its Initiative 728 funds toward reducing class sizes, under its proposal for 2006-07.

School leaders also hope to continue and expand other programs supported by the state school improvement dollars that voters approved in 2000. Those include training for teachers and after-school and summer programs.
