EVERETT — The final layer of concrete will be poured Monday for Snohomish County’s new 1,200-stall underground parking garage.
Crews will pour 800 yards of concrete to top off the new garage, work that could take up to 12 hours, construction project director Larry Van Horn said. One concrete truck can pour 70 yards of concrete per hour, he added.
The county courthouse and administration building will be closed for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, but the paving also will close a section of Rockefeller Avenue between Pacific Avenue and the garage construction fence, Van Horn said.
Two 18-member crews will be working to ensure that the top slab of concrete — which includes steps, planter boxes, curbs and other landscaping features — meets all design requirements.
The parking garage is scheduled to open by the end of February.
Crews also started work on the Rockefeller Avenue entrance ramp to the new parking garage on Friday. They built a sidewalk access between county buildings and Pacific Avenue.
Excavation for the ramp will start at the beginning of February.
