SEATTLE — Williams Co. is proposing a $240 million expansion of an existing natural gas pipeline that runs along the I-5 corridor.
The Tulsa, Okla.-based company filed its proposal with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Tuesday. The expansion would increase the pipeline’s capacity to fuel new natural-gas-fired power generators in Washington state, said company spokeswoman Danielle Clyde.
The gas would be used to fuel 1,900 megawatts of additional power — enough electricity to serve about 2 million homes.
The pipeline now delivers 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day to utility companies, power generators and industrial customers. The proposed expansion would provide an additional 276 million cubic feet per day.
