OLYMPIA — A 5-year old girl has been sworn as a deputy of the Thurston County sheriff’s office.
Thurston County Sheriff John Snaza pinned a badge on Lucy Boyd during a ceremony Friday in Olympia. She’ll take over the post of sheriff Aug. 21.
Boyd, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2012, is in remission.
The Olympian says across the state, children with life-threatening illnesses participate in a program that allows them to be police chief or sheriff for a day.
