HAYWARD, Calif. — A mountain lion that is believed to have paid at least two visits this week to Hayward and to have eaten a goat Wednesday is at large, police said.
The mountain lion was first seen Sunday night. A resident videotaped the animal and wildlife experts confirmed that it was a mountain lion, police said.
On Wednesday night, a citizen told police that he saw a mountain lion kill a goat and drag it away. Police confirmed that a goat is missing from a nearby home.
The area where the cougar has been seen abuts a large open space in the East Bay hills.
Nearby residents and schools have been alerted, police said. Residents who see the animal are advised to get indoors and call police.
