Members of the Lake Stevens Family Church and other volunteers recently made sure seniors in Lake Stevens got their traditional Christmas meal.
The meal, normally served each year at the Lake Stevens Senior Center, was canceled this Christmas because of the weather.
Approximately 60 seniors had been scheduled to meet at the Lake Stevens Senior Center to share a meal together and to receive gifts donated by area churches and organizations. Many of the seniors were not able to visit family or to go anywhere for Christmas because of the heavy snow. Having the Christmas meal canceled was a big disappointment.
When church members and other Lake Stevens residents heard about the cancellation, they decided to step up.
On Christmas Eve morning, volunteers met at the home of Anne Spence, meal director for the senior center, to assemble 36 meals. They delivered the meals to seniors who were shut in during the Christmas holiday.
Lake Stevens Family Church is at 4820 Highway 92, Lake Stevens. For more information, call 425-334-5900.
