SEATTLE — A day after officially entering the U.S. Senate race against powerful Democrat Patty Murray, Republican Dino Rossi took a hard line on immigration reform, saying that the federal government’s ability to secure U.S. borders has been a “colossal failure.”
In an interview with The Associated Press today, Rossi stopped short of saying that he supported Arizona’s tough new crackdown on illegal immigration, but said that law was “born of frustration.”
Rossi said that while he wants to see legal immigrants come to this country, as his family did, he wants to see a “tall fence with a high gate” for those who look to enter the U.S. illegally. He said that in part, it’s a matter of national security.
