BEND, Ore. — Fish and wildlife commissioners are going to hear from experts Friday who say the gray wolf should be removed from the state’s endangered species list.
The Bend Bulletin reports wolf program coordinator Russ Morgan will give a report to the commission Friday on the gray wolf’s status and recommend it be delisted. The report says health, survival, dispersal, habitat and habitat connectivity all indicate the gray wolf is a growing population.
This change would not impact a federal endangered listing that includes the state’s western two-thirds. Eastern wolves are already delisted.
A fish and wildlife department spokeswoman said if commissioners decide to move forward with delisting the species, they’ll draft a proposal by June and vote on it in August.
