AUBURN, Wash. — Officials say the president of Green River College is stepping down after six years in the position, effective immediately.
Director of College Relations Allison Friedly said in a news release Thursday the community college’s board of trustees accepted Eileen Ely’s resignation. No reason was given for her departure.
Business Administration Vice President Shirley Bean and Human Resources and Legal Affairs Vice President Marshall Sampson will share the duties of acting president until an interim president is appointed. A national search will be conducted for a permanent hire.
The faculty’s union members have called for Ely’s resignation for several years and went on strike in May over proposed program cuts.
The college’s vice president, Derek Brandes, said earlier this month he was leaving to become president of Walla Walla Community College.
