VANCOUVER, Wash. — Gov. Chris Gregoire does not want to see the WASL graduation requirements delayed for another year.
The governor says she disagrees with a plan by state schools Superintendent Randy Dorn to delay the math and science parts of the WASL as a graduation requirement until 2014.
Gregoire says it’s time for the state to get going and prepare its high school students.
In an interview with The Vancouver Columbian, the governor said she will meet with the new schools chief to make her views known. Then they’ll work together to figure out what to do about the WASL.
The 2007 Legislature pushed back from 2008 to 2013 the date when passage of the math and science tests will be required for high school graduation.
