OLYMPIA — Gov. Chris Gregoire says a special session will begin next Tuesday to give lawmakers more time to reach deals on state budgets.
Friday’s announcement came on the same day the Legislature is ending its regular session, which lasted 103 days.
Lawmakers will take a weekend break before returning to Olympia. The full Senate is expected to start work Tuesday, while the House will send most of its members home until negotiations reach an ending point.
Lawmakers are ending the regular session without reaching deals on the operating budget or the construction budget.
Gregoire also says that she wants reform to the state’s workers compensation system to be reached in the legislative overtime.
