A Lynnwood man pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree manslaughter in the Feb. 1 shooting death of a 19-year-old man at a drinking party in an apartment.
Matthew A. Propst, 18, is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 5. Under the state sentencing range, he faces a prison sentence of 21 to 27 months for the shotgun shooting of Andrew Russell Olsen of Lynnwood.
According to court documents, Propst and other young people had been drinking at the apartment in the 4500 block of 164th Street SW. Witnesses told sheriff’s deputies that an intoxicated Propst started pointing a shotgun in Olsen’s direction.
One witness told deputies that he had been in a bedroom when Propst was showing off the shotgun. The witness heard Propst make a comment about unloading it so nobody would be shot. Then there was a gunshot, and Olsen was dead.
A detective later found the weapon in a trash bin in the apartment complex.
