SEATTLE — A 21-year-old Federal Way, Wash., man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the May 2012 death of a man killed by a stray bullet as he drove through a Seattle neighborhood with his family.
King County prosecutors say Andrew Patterson was having a dispute with another person when he fired across a street. A bullet hit 43-year-old Seattle software engineer Justin Ferrari in the head. He was driving through Seattle’s Central District with his parents and his two young children.
Prosecutors plan to recommend a sentence of more than 19 years when Patterson is sentenced Aug. 23. He entered his plea Tuesday.
Prosecutor Dan Satterberg said in a statement that the “random, tragic and senseless death” was the result of Patterson’s decision to use a gun “to settle a petty dispute.”
