SPOKANE, Wash. — The teen who was driving in a Spokane Valley crash that killed two 15-year-old classmates pleaded guilty Thursday to vehicular homicide.
As part of a plea bargain, Preston Maher will serve 60 days in juvenile detention.
KREM reports the courtroom in Spokane was filled with family members and friends of Josie Freier and McKenzie Mott. The two University High School girls were killed Oct. 5 when the car driven by the 16-year-old went out of control on a stretch of road known as the Ponderosa Jump and crashed into a tree.
Investigators estimated his car was speeding at close to 70 miles per hour.
