EDMONDS – Police have recovered what might be one of the guns used to kill two men during a dispute at an apartment complex Wednesday night.
The gun was found Thursday in an apartment near where Nolberto Lopez-Rodriguez and Adan Ernandez were gunned down, Assistant Police Chief Al Compaan said.
“It was discarded there. We do believe the firearm was used during the activity. It’s entirely possible it’s the murder weapon,” he said.
Detectives plan to test the gun to determine if it matches the bullets found at the scene and those that killed the two men.
It’s still unclear how many guns were used or if the victims fired back, Compaan said.
Police continued to search Friday for the suspects.
They identified one of the men as Carlos Chavez, but do not know if that is his real name. The second suspect is Fucundo Romero-Arredondo. He uses the nickname Pancho.
The shootings happened at the Village Apartments at 8201 Lake Ballinger Way. Ernandez, 23, died at the scene. Lopez-Rodriguez, 36, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Police suspect that the men were shot during an argument about money owed for a car, Compaan said. Friends and family said there was no reason for the gunfire.
“My brother never asked for anything from him, and he never asked anything from my brother,” said Lopez-Rodriguez’s brother Antonio Lopez.
