Although some Halloween events, such as trick or treating at Alderwood Mall, have been canceled this year and kids and adults alike are changing from gory to patriotic costumes, events still abound to mark the day that has come to mean candy, neighborhood outings and parties.
Among those planned today and Wednesday around the county are:
Trick-or-Treat on Main Street. Merchants will open their doors to trick-or-treaters from 5 to 7 p.m. on Halloween.
Haunted House: 6-9 p.m. tonight and 7-10 p.m. on Halloween. Old City Hall. $2 per person. 360-436-0308.
Halloween tales: 5, 6 and 7 p.m. on Halloween at the Edmonds Library, 650 Main St.
Jaycees’ Haunted Forest: 7-10 tonightand Halloween at 802 Mukilteo Blvd. Admission is $5 per person; 360-652-7988, 425-239-7964.
Corn maze: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and HalloweenCarleton Farm, 830 Sunnyside Blvd., Everett: 425-334-2297.
Everett Mall: Invites children of all ages to trick or treat at the mall from 6-9 p.m. $1 donation or one can of food.
Harvest pumpkin patch: geared toward preschool- and kindergarten-age children, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Halloween; reservations required for groups; at Lynnwood Nursery, 19325 Filbert Road (196th Street SW). $3 per child, adults free; 425-776-6972.
Wal-Mart will pass out candy for children during the evening.
Pumpkin Parade: A sidewalk parade for costumed children, with treats given out by Third Street businesses, cookies and cider at Hilton’s Pharmacy in Marysville. Children should meet at 4:30 p.m. on Halloween at Third Street and State Avenue; 360-659-4997.
The Wal-Mart store at Quil Ceda Village will take pictures of children in costume throughout the day. Staff members will select winners.
Haunted Scaregrounds: 6-10 tonight and Halloween, under the grandstands at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds. Not recommended for young children or the faint of heart. Admission is $10 for one side, $14 for both sides; 425-258-9609.
"The Harvest" Halloween kids’ fair: A nonscary event from 4-8 p.m. on Halloween in the Commercial Building at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds. $3.50 per person or $10 per family. Information 425-210-8466.
"Creaky Cafe": The Gene Nastri School presents a Halloween event for younger children and those who spook easily. 6-9 tonight at Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln St. Free; 425-290-9500.
"Hotel Sea’NoMore": The Gene Nastri School’s annual haunted house is a hotel haunted by an ancient mariner, recommended for ages 8 years and older; 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln St., Olde Towne. $6; 425-290-9500.
Halloween concert: The Snohomish High School Wind Ensemble presents spooky selections and theatrical surprises at 7:30 tonight at the Snohomish High School Performing Arts Center. Free.

Snohomish First Street Merchants trick-or-treat: Children can gather treats in a safe environment from 4 to 5 p.m. on Halloween on First Street, Union and Glen. Look for signs indicating participating merchants.
