RICHLAND — The union representing some workers at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is reluctantly recommending they approve a new contract.
The Hanford Atomic Metal Trades Council says the proposed contract is the result of 2 1/2 years of negotiations.
The Tri-City Herald reports the union told its members there is no negotiating position left other than conducting a strike, which could prove unsuccessful.
Battelle, which operates the lab in Richland for the Department of Energy, says the five-year contract proposal ensures the long-term viability of its benefits program.
The agreement would give workers at the lab a $2,600 one-time payment when the contract is ratified. It would be followed with a 2 percent wage increase each November through 2019.
Workers will vote on the proposed contract Aug. 28.
