MARYSVILLE — Last year, 3,000 people were challenged to get healthier and they had fun doing it, organizers say.
This year, even more vendors are likely to attend the Healthy Communities Challenge Day on June 5, said Andrea Kingsford, recreation coordinator for the city of Marysville.
“Every single booth that comes has something that’s interactive about it,” she said. “It’s not just getting a pamphlet.”
The free event is put on along with the Marysville YMCA and the Snohomish County Get Movin’ summer program, designed to motivate people to reach health, nutrition and fitness goals.
The event features fun ways to get healthy and in shape. Gardening booths, for example, give people a chance to put their hands in the dirt, Kingsford said. A physical therapy booth gives people a chance to try stretches, she said.
A Hula Hoop jamboree and giveaways, free jump ropes and demonstrations, a climbing wall and Zumba and kung fu demonstrations also are planned.
The agenda also includes walking and running seminars, sports injury prevention and screenings, and a family concert featuring Recess Monkey.
The Marysville Community Coalition, a community assistance organization, also is participating this year.
