Now is the time to get serious.
Applications for the 2011 Washington State University Master Gardener Program are now available for Snohomish County gardeners.
Training will be 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every Thursday Jan. 6 to March 31 at the WSU Snohomish County Extension offices at McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett.
Trainees pay $150 to cover costs of materials and training, plus a $50 to $75 fee to cover additional online training fee. Applications must be submitted by Oct. 31.
Volunteer trainees in the program learn horticulture and pest management, including how to identify and troubleshoot common garden challenges and how to offer environmentally responsible solutions.
WSU faculty, staff and local specialists provide university training. In return for this training, volunteers assist local extension personnel in providing information and education to the community.
Volunteers are asked to donate a minimum of 60 hours each year for two years to the program as community educators at master gardener plant clinics, demonstration gardens, special projects and at other approved outreach programs.
To apply, go to snohomish.wsu.edu/mg/garmg.htm or send a self-addressed, stamped, legal-size envelope with 78 cents postage the extension address above, marked “Attn: MG” or call 425-338-2400 for more information.
