Head-on crash sends woman to the hospital

SNOHOMISH — An 18-year-old woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center Friday after a head-on crash about 11:40 a.m. at Orchard Avenue and Three Lakes Road.

The woman suffered head injuries, facial lacerations and hip pain after she was partially ejected through the windshield, Snohomish Fire Lt. David Steele said. She underwent surgery in Seattle, but her condition was unavailable Friday night.

A 16-year-old girl injured in the same crash was treated at Providence Everett Medical Center’s Pacific Campus and later was released, a nursing supervisor said.

No other details were available.

Arlington

Sex offender warning: Snohomish County sheriff’s officials issued a public warning Friday about a Level 3 sex offender who will live in the 4100 block of 172nd Street NE in the Arlington area beginning Jan. 31.

Leonard Dean Woody, 42, pleaded guilty in 1979 to communicating with a minor for immoral purposes, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said. The victim was a 10-year-old girl. In early 1985, Woody committed another sex crime involving a 7-year-old boy, Jorgensen said.

He was civilly committed as a sexually violent predator in late 1991. In November 2000, a court ordered Woody released to a less restrictive alternative placement from the state’s Special Commitment Center.

Both victims were unknown to him.

Woody is white, 5 feet 4 inches, 156 pounds, with green eyes and black hair.

Sheriff’s officials will conduct a community meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Lakewood High School’s theater, 17023 11th Ave. NE, Arlington.

Interested residents or those seeking additional information are urged to attend.

Marysville

Police crash: A city police officer was treated for minor injuries Thursday night after his patrol car was involved in a collision in the 9500 block of State Avenue.

Officer Brian Lutschg, 35, was responding with his emergency lights and sirens on to assist other Marysville officers arresting a combative man, Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said. While the officer was en route, a 1996 Jeep Cherokee driven by Michael C. Fischer, 44, of Marysville, pulled out of a business driveway.

The two vehicles collided in the center turn lane, according to the Washington State Patrol. Lutschg was treated at Providence Everett Medical Center’s Colby Campus and later was released. Fischer was uninjured.

Troopers investigated the crash and police shut down the road during the investigation.

Everett

Crane overturns: Authorities are trying to determine why a crane on a barge overturned into the water near Kimberly-Clark Corp.

The crane was on a barge operated by Caicos Construction of Bainbridge Island to replace some damaged pilings. The crew apparently had just finished working and were repositioning the hammer and raising the boom when the crane tipped over and fell into the water, Port of Everett Executive Director John Mohr said Thursday.

The crane operator managed to escape safely, he said.

Employees of Dunlap Marine Towing Co. deployed a cleanup boom and mopped up spilled fuel Tuesday, Mohr said.

American Construction of Everett had equipment large enough to lift the crane out of the water Wednesday, he said.

No estimate of damage was available.

Edmonds

House fire: Fire officials estimate the loss from a house fire at $235,000.

The fire Tuesday in the 600 block of Ninth Ave. N was discovered about 4:12 a.m., Edmonds Fire Lt. Doug Dahl said.

The occupants were away and the fire burned for a considerable time before it was discovered, Dahl said. It burned through the floor in some areas, causing a fire in the crawl space under the house.
