An Everett town hall forum on health care on Wednesday is being moved to the Aquasox ballpark to accommodate the crowd expected to attend.
Congressman Rick Larsen held a similar event in Mount Vernon over the weekend that drew more than 600 people, roughly triple the capacity of the meeting room. That event was scheduled to last an hour, but took close to three hours.
Wednesday evening’s forum, set for 5 p.m., was originally planned for a meeting room at Everett Station, but aides scrambled to change the venue to the much larger Memorial Stadium, at 3900 Broadway in Everett.
Health care reform has been an emotional and often political topic at similar events around the country.
At Mount Vernon, Larsen heard people supportive and opposed to health care reform and “everyone in between,” said Amanda Mahnke, an aide to Larsen.
“While there has been a lot of negative publicity about town halls in other parts of the country, in Mount Vernon, I think we had a very civil conversation,” she said.
