BREMERTON — A Tennessee-based health care company is looking at Kitsap County as the home of a future methadone clinic.
The Kitsap Sun reported residents objected to putting a similar clinic in the area in 2011, saying it would negatively impact quality of life and may increase crime.
Acadia Healthcare is interested in putting a 350-patient clinic in the county. The exact location has not been determined.
Lakewood-based Acadia regional director Debra Cummins says Kitsap is the eighth largest county nationally without a methadone clinic.
Bremerton Senior Planner Allison Satter says a clinic needs to be permitted through a public process.
County Commissioner Rob Gelder says Silverdale could be a fit for a future clinic, noting that the public will be able to comment on any proposal by Acadia.
