EVERETT – A baseboard heater touched off a fire Tuesday that destroyed a bedroom in an Everett apartment, firefighters said.
The fire caused an estimated $20,000 in damage to a bedroom at the Park Ridge Apartments, 120 W. Casino Road, Everett Fire Department Battalion Chief Nick Walker said. The fire was reported about 9:15 a.m.
The heater apparently was too close to a mattress, which caught fire, Walker said. The building was evacuated while firefighters responded, but nobody was hurt.

Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives are investigating allegations that a woman embezzled more than $30,000 from Zion Lutheran School.

The school’s bank reported that the fund-raiser account was overdrawn. Two people also reported that their credit cards were charged twice for items they purchased at the school’s auction in May, court documents read.

A 39-year-old Gold Bar man was charged Tuesday with second-degree assault of a child for allegedly shaking and causing brain injury to his 3-month-old son.
Andrew Dale Anderson admitted shaking the child July 20 while his wife was at an aerobics class, deputy prosecutor Matt Baldock said.
The child was crying when his mother returned and didn’t stop. The mother later noticed spasms.
Physicians detected brain injury and evidence of recent and past trauma, Baldock said.
