Heavy overnight rains caused rivers to rise and land to shift, shutting down train service from Everett to Seattle and increasing the potential for flooding in the Oso area.
A flood advisory was issued today for the North Fork of the Stillaguamish River. A large landslide that blocked the river just east and upstream of Oso is creating more problems this morning and crews with the county’s Department of Emergency Management crews were back in the area where several houses have been threatened.
No one has reported any flooding in houses; however, the river has flooded residential property along the river and upstream of the slide, according to the National Weather Service.
For the fifth time this month, a mudslide has forced Sound Transit to cancel its Sounder commuter train service between Everett and Seattle.
The slide happened sometime between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. this morning in the Shoreline area, according to Sound Transit spokesman Lee Somerstein.
Trains will not operate today or tomorrow. Baring any further slides, trains are expected to run again Wednesday morning. Somerstein said.
Buses are available from Everett and Edmonds stations for the morning commutes and from Fourth Avenue and Jackson Street for the evening commutes.
