Herald staff
Four Herald staffers were recognized Saturday in the 2002 Pacific Northwest Excellence in Journalism Competition.
And the Herald’s Web site, www.heraldnet.com, won three third-place honors.
Herald sportswriter Aaron Coe scored a second-place finish in the sports features division. Graphic artist Judy Stanley won a second-place honor, and page designer Ron Ramey received an honorable mention in the feature page design category. Page designer Lucrezia Wander won an honorable mention for news page design.
HeraldNet’s honors were for best overall Web site, best Web site design and best special report for its the Waterfront Renaissance project.
For the Web site competition, judges made no distiction among circulation size, putting HeraldNet up against the Northwest’s largest newspapers.
The Herald competed among daily newspapers with circulations greater than 50,000 from Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho and Alaska.
The awards are sponsored by the Society of Professional Journalists Region 10.
In addition, Herald reporter Katherine Schiffner won an honorable mention for criminal justice reporting in the under 25,000 circulation category while she worked at The Wenatchee World.
