PENDLETON, Ore. — Buildings in the Eastern Oregon city of Hermiston can now stand taller.
The City Council this week amended its codes to allow commercially zoned buildings to be 50-feet tall instead of 35.
The East Oregonian newspaper reports the planning commission sought the change after granting five variances to the height requirement since 2007.
The original reason for the 35-foot limit was because Hermiston Fire Department equipment could not reach higher. The department now has taller ladder trucks.
