SEABECK — Authorities say a hiker died in Kitsap County over the holiday weekend after he fell into Big Beef Creek.
The Kitsap County sheriff’s office says the 18-year-old was hiking with three friends on Monday afternoon when he slipped on partially submerged rocks and fell into the fast moving water.
The Kitsap County coroner’s office has identified the young man as Lucas Earl Weaver, of Seabeck.
Big Beef Creek was swelled by storm water. The sheriff’s office says Weaver was swept downstream to a waterfall where he became trapped. The fishing waders he was wearing quickly filled with water and pulled him under.
A sheriff’s detective happened to be in the area and was able to call in help, but it took about 45 minutes to find Weaver in the water.
