DARRINGTON — Two hikers were flown to safety Sunday after one of them became ill while hiking the Pacific Crest Trail west of Glacier Peak.
The pair, 56 and 23, were near Byrne Lake. The elder hiker was ill and unable to continue. About 10 a.m., the younger hiker activated a satellite beacon, seeking assistance, said Shari Ireton, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
Search-and-rescue crews reached the area in SnoHAWK10 about noon. Both women were carried by the helicopter to Taylor’s Landing outside Snohomish, where they were met by aid crews.
More information about the hikers, including their hometowns, was not immediately available.
