GOLD BAR – A historic barn in Gold Bar burned to the ground early Friday, just two days after a 105-year-old farm storage building in Monroe met a fiery end.
Firefighters from Sultan, Gold Bar and Monroe were called to the barn in the 14000 block of 387th Avenue SE at 2:32 a.m. But the old white barn built more than a century ago was engulfed in flames by the time they got there.
Snohomish County Deputy Fire Marshall Tom Foster said the fire was probably accidental. However, it will be difficult to determine a cause because there’s so little left of the building, he said.
Half the barn was being used as a cabinet shop, and the other half contained antiques left over from the barn’s golden days.
Foster estimated the barn’s value at $200,000 and the contents at $20,000. The barn was insured, but the contents were not.
The Monroe fire was also accidental, Foster said. It started when sparks from a grinder ignited wood inside the building.
