SEATTLE — For the first time since the 1960’s the bright beacon on the historic lightship Swiftsure will be turned on Friday evening in Seattle’s Lake Union.
The light on the National Historical Landmark ship will open the annual Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival.
The beacon was returned to working order by the first phase of a three-year $2 million ship restoration by Northwest Seaport.
The Swiftsure once served as a lightship at Swiftsure Bank off the entrance to the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
