EVERETT – The Museum of Snohomish County History will get up to $10,000 from the county coffers to help salvage and repack documents and memorabilia damaged earlier this month in a fire.
The County Council approved a contract Wednesday. The county money comes from a $1 document-filing fee collected by the county for historic programs and preservation.
A fire struck the museum’s Everett storage facility on April 1. Water used to fight the blaze spilled into the basement and damaged historic documents and memorabilia kept there.
Half of the money is planned for the purchase of special archival boxes and historic document sheet protectors. The group plans to spend $900 for rented dehumidifiers.
Reardon wins award for supporting parks
A statewide group of professional parks and recreation officials has given County Executive Aaron Reardon an award for supporting parks.
The Washington Recreation and Parks Association gave Reardon a citation of merit for his part in a program of funding for county park improvements last year. Reardon was nominated by county staff.
The program highlighted by the award involved borrowing money through bonds to build park and road projects within the next few years.
The County Council adopted Reardon’s proposal and added more projects and spending.
Projects include ball field upgrades, playgrounds, a yurt a camping village, picnic shelters, an amphitheater and a spray water park.
