SULTAN — Six thoroughbred horses rescued in September from a Sultan farm as part of an animal cruelty investigation have been rehabilitated and are being put up for adoption.
The horses will be on view from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Evergreen State Fair Equestrian Park in Barn 106, said Vicki Lubrin, the county’s animal control manager.
Mary Peterson, 38, is charged with five counts of first-degree animal cruelty. She’s accused of neglecting at least 10 horses that she kept on her property in Sultan.
Her trial is scheduled to begin this fall.
In September, 10 malnourished horses were removed from Peterson’s farm, and six of those are being put up for adoption.
One rescued horse had to be killed, two others already have been adopted and the remaining horse is still being evaluated, Lubrin said.
Horse enthusiasts, equine rescue organizations and the 4-H community all are invited to see the horses. Adoption applications will be available on-site. No horses will be released prior to an inspection of the horse’s new home.
