Enjoy the beautiful weather. Just don’t drive in it.
That’s what the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency is hoping people will do. The agency has declared a smog watch starting at 5 a.m. today.
The agency asks people to limit their driving, to buy gas during the cooler evening hours because of the fumes, and to wait until the heat wave is over before using gas-powered yard equipment. The goal is to prevent the buildup of unhealthy levels of pollution.
Ozone levels are expected to reach the moderate range today as stagnant air conditions contribute to pollution buildup. The stagnant air is expected to persist at least through Saturday.
This is the first smog watch since last summer.
