EVERETT — A family of five was displaced but uninjured after an early morning house fire.
Everett Fire Chief Dave DeMarco said the family was cooking on a barbecue in the Madison neighborhood of central Everett when the siding caught fire, spreading to the attic. The cause is unknown and under investigation, but he said the barbecue “appears to have ignited the siding.” Flames were extinguished within 20 minutes by Everett Fire Department crews.
There were no injuries to the family, including their two dogs. DeMarco said the home is uninhabitable due to smoke and water damage. American Red Cross is assisting the family with housing.
DeMarco said grills and other outdoor fires should be kept at least 2 feet away from anything flammable.
