SULTAN – About 400 people gathered Monday evening at Sultan High School to remember and celebrate the life of Krystinia McCarty.
The 16-year-old died on June 2 when a train struck a car on the tracks at a crossing near Sixth Street. Krystinia was a passenger in the car. Her friend Jeff Hales, 18, was driving and survived the collision.
Hales attended the memorial service on Monday, sitting in a wheelchair.
The size of the crowd gave comfort and hope to Krystinias family. Sultan Mayor Ben Tolson led the memorial.
Its very impressive that all of you are here to pay tribute to Krystinia. Thank you, Paul McCarty, her great uncle, told the crowd.
Krystinia dedicated her life to serving others, McCarty said. Her life inspired many people; her death has broken many hearts, he said.
We pray, or shall I recommend we pray, for faith and hope, McCarty said.
