VANCOUVER, Wash. — A driver on the I-5 Bridge between Vancouver, Washington, and Portland, Oregon, fled from his minivan after a fiery crash, leaving a small child and two women inside.
KOMO-TV reported that transportation crews who had been working on the bridge were able to rescue the women and child after the crash early Thursday by breaking a window of the minivan to help them escape before the flames could spread.
The child and one of the women were taken to the hospital after the crash.
Officials said the driver got out after rear-ending a road construction vehicle and started running south across the bridge. Police have not said whether the driver was found.
