Bus riders, Mukilteo residents and commuters who drive through Everett will benefit most when nearly $40 million federal road and transit dollars are sent to Snohomish County in 2005.
The Puget Sound Regional Council is asking for public comment on its plan to divide $326 million in federal transportation dollars that it expects to receive from next year’s federal highway bill.
Snohomish, King, Pierce and Kitsap counties will share the money. Snohomish County’s share is $38.5 million.
To offer your feedback on the Puget Sound Regional Council’s plan for dividing $326 million in federal transportation dollars, you are invited to council meetings on Oct. 14 or 28. Or you can make comments online at www.psrc.org/ projects/tip/commentform.htm or write to Karen Richter, 1011 Western Ave., Suite 500, Seattle, WA 98104.

“We want to hear how these projects will affect” the public, said Michele Leslie, public involvement coordinator for the council. “We definitely want to hear if they support the projects.”
The money is divided using a variety of formulas that mostly have to do with how many people live in each county. Much of the money is awarded based on competitive bids that local jurisdictions make to the regional council.
The regional council will make a final decision on the plan Oct. 28. The numbers could change – they’ll probably go up – when Congress approves a new transportation bill, perhaps early next year.
Under the proposal, Community Transit would get $18.2 million; a ferry, train and bus station in Mukilteo would get $5.8 million; and two bridge projects on I-5 in Everett would get $4.8 million.
