EVERETT — Everyone is invited to a ground breaking ceremony for the expansion of the Imagine Children Museum planned for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at 1502 Wall St.
Kids who show up will receive, while they last, a free commemorative shovel.
After a months-long campaign, the nonprofit has reached its $5 million fund-raising goal.
Officials plan to turn a parking garage attached to its main building into a Northwest-style lodge exhibit space.
The multipurpose pavilion will enable the museum to host traveling exhibits and special events as well as serve more people.
The plans call for a stage for performances, two family restrooms, storage and a workshop to fix the things that will inevitably get broken.
The expansion will add about 7,500 square feet of space.
The work is expected to be finished by Christmas. The museum plans to keep its doors open the entire time.
