The last time the state of Washington decommissioned a ferry was in 2016. It was the 63-year-old MV Evergreen State, and Washington State Ferries managed to sell it for $300,000 to a company in Grenada.
Back east, Delaware and New Jersey just decommissioned a ferry that was merely 43 years old. And when it came time to dispose of the MV Twin Capes, they didn’t bother selling it — they just sank it offshore. It wasn’t the first time they’ve done that. Delaware has created an artificial reef system with sunken boats.
Yeah, cool, whatever. Folks here just want to know what a ferry looks like when it’s sinking. You know, how much time would we have?
