POW/MIA Day
Edmonds VFW Post 8870 Commander Fred Apgar, a Vietnam veteran, encourages people to participate in National Prisoners of War and Missing in Action Recognition Day on Sept. 20.
The National POW/MIA Recognition Day was instigated by the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia, Apgar said. Recognition ceremonies are conducted at all military installations at home and abroad, where the POW/MIA flag, with its motto “You Are Not Forgotten,” is to be displayed. The flag plays a prominent role in recognition ceremonies, but many national, state and local governmental agencies routinely fly the POW/MIA flag, Apgar said.
