Naval station wins award for conservation
EVERETT — Naval Station Everett was recognized with the Secretary of the Navy Energy Conservation Award for 2017 among small shore naval installations worldwide.
The base, which opened in 1994, has more uniform design, offers support services close to the piers and has a relatively small footprint compared to older, World War II-era installations. In addition, it has made an effort to be more efficient, with several projects that aim to conserve energy. In 2016, the base cut its energy use by 49 percent compared to a 2003 baseline.
Most recently, the base installed solar electric panels.
With the acknowledgement, NSE also receives $30,000 to be used for future energy conservation projects or for increasing morale.
