The U.S. Army Reserve’s 364th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, based in Marysville, is the largest U.S. Army Reserve contingent participating in the upcoming Exercise Anakonda 16.
Anakonda 16 is a Polish-led, joint multinational exercise taking place throughout Poland from June 7-17. Held every other year, U.S. involvement demonstrates a commitment to both Poland and NATO.
The exercise involves more than 25,000 participants from 24 nations and is a premier training event for U.S. Army Europe and its allies.
The 364th’s work has already started as the theater-opening unit, charged with setting the stage for the exercise and all the participating units. Its members have off-loaded hundreds of pieces of equipment and set up their tactical operations center in preparation for the exercise.
“We’ve been here since May 9 and it’s been very busy,” said Maj. Marvin Baker, 364th ESC public affairs officer.
The 483rd Quartermaster Company, also based in Marysville, is among the other units participating and among the first to arrive and last to leave.
“I’m extremely excited,” said Spc. Josiah Pittard, an automated logistical specialist with the 483rd. “It’s cool to be able to leave the country finally. I’ve always wanted to be deployed and this is as close as I have been so far.”
