NEAH BAY — Makah Nation officials say they are seeing increased debris on their beaches and they think it could be from the destruction caused by the tsunami in Japan last year.
With that in mind, Makah members offered a blessing to the Japanese people before starting a routine beach clean-up earlier this month.
A massive earthquake and tsunami March 11, 2011, off Tohoku, Japan, have sent tons of debris across the Pacific Ocean.
The Peninsula Daily News reported that cleanup is scheduled every Friday afternoon.
Tribe general manager Meredith Parker said the beaches of tsoo-yas and Hobuck have been prioritized.
