MARYSVILLE – No one was hurt this morning when a roof collapsed at a manufacturing warehouse in Marysville.
Fire department crews rushed just after 7 a.m. to reports of the collapse and a gas leak in the 1,200-square foot building in the 14200 block of Smokey Point Blvd., Marysville Fire District spokeswoman Kristen Thorstenson said.
The building is occupied by Whitley Evergreen Inc., Thorstenson said.
It appears deep snow and ice were too heavy for the roof, she said.
The sprinkler system was activated by the collapse. A sulfur smell still hung in the air for hours after crews shut off the gas.
“Every once in a while you get a whiff of the gas,” she said.
All the buildings in the factory complex, which manufactures mobile homes and portable office sheds, were evacuated as a precaution.
A city building inspector was expected to determine if the other buildings on the compound were safe to enter.
Traffic was getting by on Smokey Point Boulevard, but the roadways remain very treacherous, Thorstenson said.
Whitely Evergreen built three schools for the Marysville School District as part of a $24.7 million project. Those campuses, which opened in late 2007 and 2008, include Marysville Arts &Technology High School, Tulalip Heritage High School and 10th Street School. They were trucked in pieces to grounds just south of Quil Ceda Elementary School on the Tulalip Indian Reservation.
