TACOMA — A 25-year-old Fife man accused of violently shaking his 2-month-old son has pleaded not guilty to an assault charge.
George Wells entered his plea Monday. Bail was set at $1 million.
The News Tribune reported that Pierce County prosecutors say doctors determined the infant has severe brain injuries and no real sign of brain activity.
Charging papers say Wells was alone with the child for about 20 minutes Friday while his girlfriend went grocery shopping.
In court documents, police say Wells told them he accidentally dropped the baby while tossing him in the air.
