PORT ANGELES – A Coast Guard helicopter crew flying at just above 7,000 feet plucked an injured 64-year-old climber off a mountain in the Olympic range, an agency spokesman said Monday.
The crew from Port Angeles hoisted John Williams from a spot near the summit of The Brothers, a peak rising 6,866 feet near the southwest boundary of Olympic National Park and Olympic National Forest.
Williams, of Belfair in Mason County, had ruptured an Achilles tendon. He was treated and released Sunday night from Olympic Medical Center here.
The Coast Guard received the call from Jefferson County dispatchers at 7:45 p.m. Sunday.
