ABERDEEN — The fleeing jail inmate who was shot and killed Friday when he threatened a woman in Aberdeen, Wash., had been jailed in an identity theft case.
The Daily World reports 40-year-old John Gary Lies of Ocean City had been jailed for investigation of burglary and theft involving the use of someone else’s credit card.
He had apparently tried to hang himself in his jail cell in Montesano on Thursday night and was taken to Community Hospital in Aberdeen.
Police say he stripped off his hospital gown and fled Friday afternoon with a corrections officer in pursuit. Police say he grabbed a woman in a parking lot and was holding something sharp to her neck when the officer fired.
