Intruders shoot Bothell man in his own home

BOTHELL — A 40-year-old man was shot by intruders when he confronted then in his home Thursday, in what the sheriff’s office believes was not a random crime.

The man was listed in serious but stable condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. No one else was injured, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.

Deputies responded about 2:20 a.m. to the man’s home in the 19700 block of 43rd Avenue SE in Bothell. They arrived to find the man suffering from gunshot wounds. His wife and daughter also were home. The three had been sleeping when they heard noises in the front room and the man went to investigate, Jorgensen said. He confronted two unknown males, and one of them shot him, she said.

The intruders then fled.

"We do not believe that this was random," Jorgensen said.

Nothing appeared to be missing from the home.

The crash occurred about 4 p.m. at milepost 8 when a 1977 Ford pickup traveling at high speed went off the road and hit a large tree, she said. When authorities arrived, the truck was engulfed in flames and the driver was dead at the scene.

A witness reported the truck was going fast prior to the crash, she said.

In addition, the property owners, a 52-year-old man and 54-year-old woman, were arrested on investigation of using a building for drug purposes. They were booked into the Snohomish County Jail, police said.
