EVERETT — The cause and origin of the Friday night fire that destroyed Judd & Black Appliance in Everett remains under investigation, fire department officials said Monday. Investigators estimate the losses at $1.5 million for the building and about $2 million in inventory. The structure, built in 1892, did not have fire sprinklers inside.
The two northbound lanes of the 2800 block of Maple Street, between California Street and Hewitt Avenue, remain closed. There are safety concerns with the west side of the building further collapsing onto Maple Street.
Investigation of a fire of this magnitude requires a slow and methodical process. A team of both fire investigators and police detectives are working closely together, officials said.
Fire officials said Saturday that the cause of the fire appeared to be suspicious.
